HOW LONG IS THE WALK?
The walk is slightly over 2K at 1.34 miles long. We have a short walk so that everyone, no matter the age, can enjoy the walk. We also offer transportation at the halfway mark for those who need it. For those who would like more of a challenge, do it again!
WHAT IS CROP HUNGER WALK?
The purpose of CROP Hunger Walk is to raise money to fight hunger locally and globally. The CROP movement began in 1947 when farmers came together to share their crops with people in Europe who were suffering the devastation from World War II. The first CROP Hunger Walk in Winston-Salem was held in 1979, and has been held annually, raising over $1.8 million to fight hunger. For 44 years, the CROP Hunger Walk has brought people of different faith communities, cultures and ages together to show their support for the hungry, victims of famine, war and disease.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
CROP Hunger Walk donations are shared with 75% going to Church World Service, one of the most effective and efficient international service agencies in the world, and 25% going to Crisis Control Ministry and Sunnyside Ministry to support their hunger alleviation programs in Forsyth County. Since 1979, over $473,000 has stayed in our community to help our neighbors in need.at
WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?
Giving to the CROP Hunger Walk is an investment in both our local and our global community. By giving someone a helping hand, you give him or her the ability to help themselves and to help others.
WHAT IS A CROP HUNGER WALK TEAM CAPTAIN?
A team captain is the person who heads up the walk team at his or her congregation, school, business, or social organization. The captain encourages people to walk on the team, gives out donation envelopes and materials, and collects the monies raised by the team.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE AS A SPONSOR?

WHO CAN WALK?
Anyone! You can walk as part of a team, walk with your friends and family, or walk as an individual. People who walk in CROP have a desire to bring community awareness to the issue of hunger and to support hunger alleviation programs. Traditionally, over 1,000 people walked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Walk.
HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE AS A WALKER?
Register online at www.crophungerwalk.org/winstonsalemnc or pick up a walker donation envelope, either from your recruiter, or at Crisis Control Ministry. Ask friends, family and co-workers to sponsor you by making a donation to CROP Hunger Walk. As a 501(c)(3), all donations are tax deductible. Checks should be written to CWS/CROP. Team captains, take your completed envelopes to Crisis Control Ministry the week prior to the walk to preregister and pick up your free t-shirt (if you qualify) or take it with you to the walk and register on Walk day.
CAN I PARTICIPATE EVEN IF I CAN’T WALK?
Yes! You can sponsor another walker or you can be a Spirit Walker.
To sponsor another walker, just give the walker a donation. Checks should be written to CWS/CROP. Or, you can make an e-donation to the walker on the web. Go to www.crophungerwalk.org/winstonsalemnc. Search for the “Individual” you want to sponsor. Donations can be made using your credit card through a secure site.

HOW CAN I RAISE DONATIONS ONLINE?
First, go to www.crophungerwalk.org/winstonsalemnc. Select "Register" to create your online account. Once you have created your individual page, you will be asked if you want to "Start a Team", "join a Team", or "Stay Solo". Now you can promote your page, track donations, and send e-mails to your friends and family so they can give a secure donation online. If you raise $100 in donations or $50 for youth, be sure to ask your Team Captain to pick-up your t-shirt from Crisis Control Ministry before Walk day.
WHEN DO I REGISTER?
Register in advance online for the 2023 Walk at www.crophungerwalk.org/winstonsalemnc. You can also preregister before the Walk (October 2nd - 13th) at Crisis Control Ministry, 200 East Tenth Street in Winston-Salem.
WILL WE KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY WE RAISED?
Yes. After the walk, a letter will be sent to all teams thanking them for their participation and letting them know how much each team donated and how many walkers participated, according to our records.
Teams will be recognized in spring 2023 for their participation in the walk. Certificates will be presented to the teams making the largest donations, teams with the largest number of walkers, and the individuals with the most donations.
WHO ORGANIZES THE WINSTON-SALEM/FORSYTH COUNTY CROP HUNGER WALK?
The walk is planned, organized, and carried out by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County CROP Hunger Walk committee. It is made up of volunteers from the community who are interested in hunger issues and know that the CROP Hunger Walk supports agencies that can and do make a difference in our community and around the world. Volunteers come to the committee through working with other volunteers, are former or current team recruiters, or just want to find a way to make a difference in someone’s life. The walk committee receives help from the agencies the CROP Hunger Walk supports, but primarily works out of the offices of Crisis Control Ministry. To join the planning committee, contact: info@cropwalkforsyth.org.
CAN I DESIGNATE MY CONTRIBUTION TO ANOTHER AGENCY?
Yes. Because some congregations or organizations may have a particular interest in another approved international hunger-fighting agency, donors may designate their donations to one of these approved agencies.
Donors who wish to designate their donation should make their donations online at www.crophungerwalk.org and should select the identification letters for the agency when prompted "Donor Designation". NOTE: It is the donor who makes the designation, not the walker or the congregation or organization with whom the walker is participating.
A member of the national CWS staff will collect the designations from the online donation site. Quarterly, the national office sends checks to the designated agencies. Church World Service does not specify how the approved agency should use the funds.
