Walk to End Hunger One Step at A Time!
Location of the Walk:
The Walk begins and ends at Corpening Plaza, 237 W. First Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, downtown Winston-Salem. CROP Hunger Walkers who do not feel comfortable walking at Corpening Plaza are encouraged to walk in their neighborhoods, their greenways, their church parking lot, and even on their treadmills! The location doesn’t matter, nor the length – we’d love to just see you out walking to end hunger one step at a time by taking pictures and tagging us on Facebook so we can share photos of our walkers. You can walk with your family or in small groups, and you can even Facetime while you walk with members of your congregation!
Distance of the Walk:
Traditionally, the walk distance is slightly over 2K (1.34 miles).
Walker Route from Corpening Plaza:
The 2024 Walk route will be the same as last years. You can click here to download a copy of the walk route.
Registration (Signing Up to Walk)

T-shirts:
As a fundraising incentive, youth Walkers (under 12 years old) who raise $50 and Walkers (13 years or older) who raise $100 in donations will receive a FREE Winston-Salem/Forsyth County CROP Hunger Walk T-Shirt. We will have t-shirts available on Walk day. If you would prefer to pick up your team's shirts in advance, you can pick up your team’s t-shirts at Crisis Control Ministry beginning Monday, September 16, 2024. See directions and hours for Crisis Control Ministry above under "Registration".
After the Walk, any remaining t-shirts can be purchased for $10 each at Crisis Control Ministry until Friday, November 8th or while supplies last. After that date, excess shirts will be donated to Sunnyside Ministry's clothing closet.
Fundraising (Collecting Donations):
You can fundraise online or in-person. To fundraise online, make sure to register as a Walker online under your church's team name. Your congregation's Team Captain will need to register online to setup your church's team name. For example, "Highland Presbyterian Church - Winston Salem" or "Greenbrier Neighborhoods - Winston Salem". Once you've registered you can share your fundraising page within your network and ask people to sponsor you as you walk to end hunger one step at a time. You can even share your fundraising page on Facebook. Set a goal for yourself and make it fun!
To fundraise in-person, ask your congregation's Team Captain for a donation envelope. Team Captains can pick-up donation envelopes and other Walk promotional materials at Crisis Control Ministry or during the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County CROP Hunger Walk Lunch & Learn. See directions and hours for Crisis Control Ministry above under "Registration".
Team Captains are encouraged to please turn in all donations by Friday, November 8th.
Alternate Walk Day:
If your team is choosing to walk a different date or location, please let us know. We recommend printing out the CROPwick and other signs found under "Resources" or making your own signs to hold up as you walk, so people know you are walking to end hunger. Please post pictures before, during, and after you walk and tag us on Facebook. You can also email pictures from your walk to [email protected].
Water:
Please remember to take a water bottle with you while you walk to stay hydrated. We will have volunteers distributing water throughout the Walk at Corpening Plaza. Don't forget to recycle your water bottle, if possible.
Restrooms:
We will have Port-A-John's available at Corpening Plaza for your use. If you are choosing to walk at a different location, it's a good idea to map out your walk before you get started to see if there are any restrooms on your walk route you can access and find where they are located.
Safety:
Your safety is very important to us! We will also have hand sanitizer stations throughout Corpening Plaza. Volunteers assisting at our refreshment areas will wear gloves. Please adhere to the Walk route. If someone has been injured, please call 911 to seek help.
After the Walk:
Come back online to share your walk experience with us and your team. Please share any photos or videos you took on the Walk by tagging us on Facebook or email [email protected]. Any remaining t-shirts can be purchased after the Walk for $10 each until Friday, November 8th. Team Captains, please be sure to turn in all of your congregation's donations and leftover materials by Friday, November 8th.
